Suppliers who furnish product or services in accordance with SC20 documents could be considered to be Critical Suppliers as addressed by Spec Q1, Clause 5.6.1, Purchasing Control, therefore it is important to evaluate your supply chain and include appropriate language in purchasing documents.
API Spec Q1 (10th Edition) and API Spec Q2 (2nd Edition) are currently in the ballot review and comment phase. While it may seem that this is business as usual, companies licensed under an API product specification or who have a quality management system certification are obliged to follow API Spec. Q1, Clause 4.4.4, Use of External Documents in Product Realization.
Historically, organizations conforming to API Spec Q1, 9th Edition, Addendum 2 have had approximately two years to identify, implement, and maintain practices related to Addendum 2’s intent: criticality. Due to the changes brought about by the pandemic, organizations should be robustly implementing their practices for Risk Assessment, Contingency Planning, and Management of Change.
